Have you ever heard of the Rule of One?
If not, then allow me to educate you… Get your notes out, sis!
It’s a rule that applies to literally any piece of content you create– an Instagram post, a landing page, a sales email, the list goes on!
It’s a concept where you make sure that you’re writing for 1 reader, writing about 1 big idea, making 1 promise and leading them to 1 offer.
Let’s take a deeper look into this rule, shall we?
A general rule of thumb whenever you create content: You’re not writing for everyone.
You are writing to one person. There’s only one person on the other side of the screen. Make sure you’re connecting with them!
Make your copy feel like a one on one conversation with your ideal customer, because when you talk to everyone, no one hears you.
A big idea is something your ideal client really wants & wants to believe you can offer them.
Things like saving time, making friends, finally embarking on a bucket list trip throughout Europe, etc.
Think about the one thing that your client truly wants from you? What can you offer them? This may take some reflecting on their pain points, but once you figure it out, you’re golden!
Make your big idea immediately clear and stick with it throughout the page.
No one wants to spend money on something that won’t work for them.
Just as I said earlier, it’s important for you to know what your ideal client wants from you and how you’re able to provide that to them. It has to be something you KNOW you can deliver.
Make a promise to your potential clients that shows there are consequences if your offer is not what you present it to be. That’s powerful.
Keep your client’s attention with one, and ONLY one, offer.
We think we want a lot of choices, but many studies have proven that having too many choices kills your user experience and usually has an adverse effect on conversion rates.
Decision fatigue and analysis paralysis are real.
Guide them to one offer that makes sense for the promise you’re making and if they connect with it, you can be sure they’ll be contacting you!
The Rule of One is something that will literally add magic to your copy and content creation!
Trust me, once you try to communicate two big ideas or communicate one big idea to two readers, you dilute the strength of your message. Then your post will literally have the opposite effect you were after.
I know it’s tempting.. but don’t do it, sis! Only ONE of each.
